Monterey Bay Seen From a Sailboat
Dolphins and Golfers Part of the Scenery

The formation of rocks off Pebble Beach as seen from Stillwater Cove.
It is beautiful seen from the land, the kelp-filled and deep blue water of Monterey Bay.
And ya know what – it's equally spectacular from the sea. In fact, it's even better because, as Surfside Sam discovered aboard the sailboat Gary's Island, it's possible to steer right up to the abundant wildlife in the bay.
We were headed to Stillwater Cove, which is by the 17th fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Course. The occasion was the final round of the annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Yes, we were one of those sailboats in the harbor that was frequently shown on TV.
In fact, the Met Life blimp was often directly above our mast.
Almost immediately after leaving the dock, we saw a pod of dolphins playing in the water. The skipper, Gary, wheeled the boat around and we circled them for several minutes.

We then went past the Monterey Bay Aquarium, a lot of kelp, Lover's Point, more kelp, incredible mansions along the coast of Pebble Beach, more kelp, then into Stillwater Cove.

Surfside Sam enjoys a cold Kona during the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
On the way back, we observed several seals playing in the water, as well as quite a few ducks, which would duck under the surface and then emerge a few seconds later.
For those who have seen Monterey Bay only from the land, it's a pretty good view from the water, as well.
