Get up close with one of nature's great occurrences by watching sea turtles hatch on a beach.

The annual sea turtle hatch is currently underway in Dominica. The island's annual sea turtle hatch begins in March and is a top tourist attraction. The gestation period is approximately 8-10 weeks. The first leatherback arrived on March 28 and nested on the beach. That means the hatchlings will be in the next eight weeks.

Hawksbill, Leatherback and Green turtles have been seen on Rosalie Bay Beach, Londonderry Beach and Bout Sabe Beach in LaPlaine.

The Dominica Sea Turtle Conservation keeps a close eye on the hatching's.

Under the watchful eye of the Dominica Sea Turtle Conservation Organization, visitors to the island can be on the “turtle alert” list to stay updated on the nighttime arrival of turtles.

A representative of the Nature Enhancement Team (NET) ensures that spectators follow the rules for interacting with and watching the turtles. The team also records turtle activity, nests and hatchings.

In addition to the annual sea turtle hatch, Dominica is the only Caribbean island where sperm whales can be seen year-round.
