Catalina’s Beautiful Villa Portofino Provides Package And Also Has Zip Line Tour Deals
One of the drawbacks of going to Catalina is the cost of getting to Catalina. Those 26 miles across the Pacific Ocean are nice on a boat but they are also expensive. The Catalina Express ferry price is $70 R/T.
But if you would rather spend some of that money on a nice hotel, then the Villa Portofino has a great deal: Half off the price of the ferry for a night’s stay. And the friendly folks at the Portofino are also throwing in taxi fare from the port to the hotel (although you can walk it in about 15 minutes; the Portofino is at the far end of the harbor) and continental breakfast.
The deal is good through the rest of the summer, all fall and doesn’t expire until Dec. 9.
The only restrictions are that it’s good only from Newport Beach and on the ferry that departs the mainland at 9 a.m., and returns at 4:30 p.m.
But with those times, that’s two full days to explore all Avalon has to offer, such as it’s harbor, Descanso Beach (where you can actually have drinks on the beach; try that in Newport), hit the shops and restaurants or have a buffalo burger at the Airport in the Sky. Adventure souls can ride the zip lines (the hotel also has packages that include the zip lines) or take a tour of the interior from the Catalina Conservancy.
Or you could just hang at the Villa Portofino the whole time. It’s a beautiful hotel with views looking out to the harbor, has a suntanning roof and a quaint and good Italian restaurant. Here’s a complete review of the hotel. If you’re interested in Avalon for a romantic getaway, spending it in the Villa Portofino with a bottle of wine in one of the rooms with a view is certainly a way to do it in a Mediterranean setting. Those 26 miles to Los Angeles will then seem like a million miles.
